RAM Oklahoma is now recruiting volunteers and raising money to support a free health care weekend at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds on Saturday, Aug. 25, and Sunday, Aug. 26.
RAM will set up 50 mobile dental operatories, about 16 lanes for eye exams, rooms for women's health care and areas for general medical referrals. The event will be staffed by hundreds of volunteers, and RAM Oklahoma is currently seeking volunteers and sponsors for the event. RAM Oklahoma is in particular need of volunteer dentists, hygienists, dental assistants, dental students, optometrists, ophthalmologists and many other volunteers.
For more information about how you can help, visit our FAQ page or contact Tres Savage at Savage@RAMOK.org or (405) 410-5411.
During its first free health care weekend in July 2010 at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds, Remote Area Medical volunteers provided 1,635 individuals quality dental, vision and general medical care.
Those patients received 2,497 total services, with many patients receiving both dental and vision care, as well as women's services and general medical exams. Using Medicare reimbursement rates, total care was calculated to be worth more than $420,000.
RAM thanks every one of the 938 volunteers — and the United States Public Health Service — for their efforts to see more than 1,600 Oklahomans.
